Art met nature on Saturday, May 18, 2025, as Shanty Bay Golf Club proudly hosted our “Meet the Artist” event with renowned local painter Debra Bridgman. From vivid landscapes to iconic course scenes, her works brought the spirit of SBGC to life.
As part of our ongoing commitment to celebrating local talent and enriching the SBGC experience beyond the game, this special event brought together art lovers, golfers, and local residents in a celebration of creativity and community spirit.
Debra Bridgman, a talented local artist from the Barrie area, has long found inspiration in the stunning vistas of our 27-hole golf course. Her work, heavily influenced by the famed Group of Seven, reflects the natural beauty and tranquil charm of Shanty Bay’s rolling fairways, rustic features, and seasonal landscapes. Saturday’s event showcased the emotional connection many have with our course—and how it can be immortalized through art.

A Creative Showcase Rooted in Nature
Guests arriving at Shanty Bay Golf Club between 11 AM and 2 PM were welcomed into the SBGC Clubhouse Restaurant, where Bridgman’s vibrant collection was on display. She featured all five of her original 2024 works, plus two brand-new 2025 creations—“SBGC Truck” and “Winter Tow Shed”—both of which were unveiled for the first time at the event. Attendees had the exclusive opportunity to speak with Debra directly, explore her inspiration, and even purchase original pieces, prints, and new mini artworks.
One of the highlights of the event was the live announcement that the SBGC Truck painting will now be displayed permanently on a bench at the Frontier #1 tee—a truly meaningful gesture that connects the golf community with the artist’s tribute to the course. This bench, which was commissioned during the event, will act as a visual and emotional landmark for players teeing off on one of our most iconic holes.
Art, Community, and CTV Barrie Coverage
The event drew not only club members and golfers but also several first-time visitors eager to explore both the artwork and our beautiful facility. The buzz reached even further with CTV Barrie covering the event, scheduled to air during the 6 PM news broadcast this week—bringing well-deserved attention to Debra Bridgman and her heartfelt representations of our course.
Artworks will remain on display in the Shanty Bay Clubhouse Restaurant throughout the golf season, offering guests a chance to enjoy them over a coffee or meal. This fusion of golf, art, and hospitality underlines SBGC’s role not just as a course, but as a vibrant destination for locals and visitors alike.
